UID 2002: Present owner not known
This Doretti with the UK registration 717 CRE is thought to be the works prepared race car. The car was driven by Don Truman in a sports car race at the Silverstone 1954 British Grand Prix and then the car appeared a few weeks later at a Stapleford hill climb event. In period photos the car looks to be a light colour and when I spoke with Don Truman at his 85th birthday celebration in 2007 he remembered it being light red in colour.
In the mid sixties the owner of 717 CRE left the car with badly damaged body work at a garage in Northampton and asked for a repair quote. The quote was provided but the customer decided not to proceed as he could not afford the work. The car sat in the garage for several months and eventually a garage employee contacted him and made him an offer. This was accepted so the new owner had the bodywork repaired and 717 CRE re-painted in blue.
In 1967 the car was given to his brother who eventually sold it in 1970 or 1971.
