This restoration of Chassis No.1098 is Maurice's second Doretti rebuild - the first was No.1200 NBC 742 for Peter Lockley. Working on Peter's car inspired Maurice to purchase this Doretti (No.1098), a car which had been off the road for a number of years. The partially dismantled car was in need of a complete restoration, but it obviously didn't present any significant problems for Maurice.
Pictured here on its very first outing to the 2005 TR Register International Weekend at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, appropriately finished in Jaguar Regency Red, which is the the nearest colour Maurice could find to the original paint.
The car was first registered in Kingston-upon-Hull in September 1954, re-registered in 1957 with London Borough Council and then again re-registered in 1958 in Middlesex to Frank Ball of Kenton.
Subsequently No.1098 was owned by Mr K. O'Connel (now deceased) of South Hatfield, Herts. but remained unregistered. According to Cyril Harvey, the car lay in the chap's front garden for some years, the owner refusing to sell it. Cyril managed to purchased the car in December 1981 from the widow of Mr O'Connel after his demise. After storing the car for many years Cyril started on a restoration but decided that one Doretti was enough for his needs and eventually sold the car to Maurice in November 1999. On completion of the restoration the car was re-registered with its original number in August 2005.
